Since its inception in 1987, Labour & Industry has established a solid reputation as a leading journal for academic research in the field of the ‘social and economic relations of work’. We have published important articles that have contributed to a greater understanding of the rapid transformation in workplace culture in Australia. We would like to encourage young scholars to contribute to the Journal, and in this way to help extend the range of topics to which the Journal can contribute.

Labour & Industry
A Journal of the Social and Economic Relations of Work

Editorial Policy
Labour and Industry offers a multi-disciplinary perspective on all aspects of the social, organizational and institutional aspects of work and industrial relations. The journal publishes original, high quality research and policy papers that investigate the implications of changing work relations for employers, employees, unions, government and other social actors with a stake in industrial relations. The aims of the journal are to encourage debate and the exchange of views between researchers, to challenge the conceptual boundaries of work and industrial relations, and to contribute to the generation of new ideas by drawing on insights from diverse disciplines. These disciplines would include: industrial/employment relations, human resource management, labour and business history, labour and employment law, management and organisational studies, political science and public policy, psychology, sociology and related disciplines.
The Editorial Group encourages submission from researchers reporting original and innovative research that contributes to the theoretical, practice and public policy dimensions of work and industrial relations. It encourages researchers to locate their contribution in the local context of a study, within the context of international debates, and in developments in the study of work and industrial relations.
The Editorial Group also encourages research teams to submit proposals for themed Symposia on new streams of research that stand to make a significant contribution to research.
Labour and Industry will publish work that seeks to explore a broad range of topics, including:
·           The changing context of work and industrial relations
·           New models of work organization and their effects on workers and firms.
·           Emerging actors and diversity in the sphere of work and industrial relations.
·           The changing role of unions and their impacts on workers, workplace and the economy.
·           Innovations in public policy and its effects on business, workers and labour markets.
·           The evolution of labour market regulation and institutions.
·           Globalisation and the internationalisation of work and production systems.
·           The interaction between work, family and other life domains.
·           Corporate governance, human resource strategies and firm performance.
·           Work rights/standards and worker security.
·           Work and employment issues in developing country settings.
·           The interaction between labour markets and social policy.
·           Inequality and discrimination at work.
·           The dynamics and structure of labour markets.
·           The work and labour market experience of marginalised groups of workers.
·           New and innovative research strategies for exploring the social and economic relations of work.
